Why monitoring is the first step
A test result gives a family, a clinician or the person being tested something solid to talk about. NIDA notes that testing does not diagnose a substance use disorder on its own (NIDA), so what matters is what happens next. That is why our monitoring program comes with a real person and a referral path, and why we wrote a guide on what to do after a positive test.
For free, confidential treatment referrals at any hour, the SAMHSA National Helpline is 1-800-662-4357. You can also see free and low cost recovery resources in Los Angeles.
Common questions
Is this quiz a diagnosis?
No. It is a starting point that suggests kinds of support to look at. A clinician can assess what someone actually needs.
Can I call for someone else?
Yes. A parent, partner or friend can call us. You can ask questions and talk through options before the person you are worried about is ready.
What should I do if someone is in crisis right now?
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health or suicide crisis, call or text 988 at any hour.
How does testing connect to these other services?
Monitoring is often the first contact. If a result or a conversation shows someone needs more, your monitoring coordinator can introduce you to therapy and psychiatric care, sober living, mentoring or scholarship help across Blackburn.
