Plan builder

Testing plan builder

Answer five questions to get a suggested starting plan to talk through with us. Your answers stay on this page unless you choose to send your plan with a callback request.

1. What is the main reason for testing?
2. What needs to be checked?
3. Who should see the results? (choose any)
4. How long do you expect to test?
5. Where and when can testing happen?

The three kinds of plans

  • One-time test

A single scheduled test when you need one clear answer.

    One-time testing
  • Random testing program

You get an electronic notice when it is time to test, so results reflect everyday life.

    Random testing program
  • Ongoing monitoring

Random testing over months with a monitoring coordinator who knows you and helps if things get hard.

    Ongoing monitoring

What shapes a plan

Every plan is set case by case. The goal, the substances, how often you test, whether positives go to a partner laboratory for confirmation, whether you need chain of custody documentation, and where you test all shape the plan and what it costs. See how monitoring works and what affects cost.

Testing for a legal requirement? Read our page on court ordered and attorney referred testing and ask your attorney whether a specific vendor or format is required.

Common questions

Does this tool send my answers to Blackburn?

Not unless you choose to. The plan is built in your browser and nothing is saved or sent on its own. If you want us to see it, call us, print it, or use "Request a callback about this plan" to send it with your first name and phone number.

Does the suggested plan set how often I test?

Frequency is set case by case, based on your goal and who needs the results. In a random program you get an electronic notice when it is time to report for a test.

Can my employer receive my results?

Only if you authorize it in writing. We offer non-DOT testing for employers and return to work situations. We do not perform DOT regulated testing.

What if testing needs to happen at home or work?

Mobile testing at home or work is available for an additional fee. Office testing is Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM at 12326 Venice Blvd, with other Blackburn locations on the Westside for other times. All testing is by appointment.
