Discretion first

Privacy is built into how we work. Results are shared quickly and only with the people the person being tested authorizes in writing. No one else is told, and nothing is posted to a public system. For families who would rather not travel, mobile testing at your home or office is available for an additional fee, with the same tests and the same partner laboratory confirmation as the office.

If you come to us

Brentwood is about 4 to 6 miles north of our office. The quickest route is usually the 405 south to the Venice Blvd exit, then west. When the 405 is crawling, Bundy Dr south becomes Centinela Ave and runs straight into Mar Vista. Outside rush hour, expect 15 to 25 minutes. By transit, the Metro E Line’s Expo/Bundy station is the nearest rail stop, with bus connections south toward Venice Blvd.

Office testing is Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, by appointment. Outside those hours, testing can be arranged at other Blackburn locations on the Westside.

Testing an adult child

If you are worried about an adult son or daughter, it helps to know the limits: an adult must agree to be tested and decides who sees results. Families get the most from testing when it is part of an agreement, such as continued support in exchange for a period of random tests, and when the family has its own support too. Our page for families covers how to set that up, and Blackburn Clinical Services offers therapy for individuals and families.

When testing shows more help is needed

A positive result is not the end of the road. It is information. The American Society of Addiction Medicine’s guidance on the appropriate use of drug testing treats testing as a tool that supports care. Through Blackburn, the next step can be therapy and psychiatric care, sober living or sober apartments, one-on-one mentoring for accountability and structure, or help with the cost of treatment. Your coordinator can make the introduction.

Monitoring over time

A single test answers one question. Our ongoing monitoring program answers the bigger one: is this holding? Random tests over weeks or months, with results going to the people who need them, build the kind of record that lets trust come back.

Tests available to Brentwood clients

  • 12 panel urine drug test for common drug classes, with results in minutes.
  • EtG alcohol test for drinking over recent days, and a breathalyzer for alcohol right now.
  • Saliva testing on request, in person.
  • Partner laboratory confirmation for positives, and chain of custody documentation when needed.

Bring a photo ID and a list of your medications to every test. Some prescriptions can show on a screen, and knowing about them up front means results are read correctly and fairly.

Cost

Our testing is low cost. Mobile visits add a fee, and your total also depends on the tests, frequency and whether lab confirmation or written reports are needed. See all areas we serve.

Need more than testing?

Monitoring is the first step, not the last. If a result or a hard week tells you more help is needed, Blackburn can connect you to it.

Common questions

Can testing happen at our Brentwood home?

Yes. Mobile testing at your home or office is available for an additional fee, using the same tests and laboratory confirmation as our office.

Will anyone outside our family know about the testing?

Results go only to the people the person being tested authorizes in writing.

Can therapy help our family if our son says no to testing?

Testing requires his agreement. A coordinator can help you think through an agreement, and therapy for the family can help even if he says no for now.

Is the 405 the best way from Brentwood?

Usually, via the Venice Blvd exit. When it is backed up, Bundy Dr south into Centinela Ave is a reliable alternative.
