Drug and alcohol testing near Westwood

In short

From Westwood, Blackburn Monitoring is about 4 to 5 miles south at 12326 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles, via the 405 or Sepulveda Blvd. Testing is by appointment Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with mobile testing at home or work for an additional fee.

Westwood is defined by a large university campus and a major medical center, surrounded by apartments, high rises and quiet residential streets. That mix brings two very different groups to drug and alcohol testing: college age young adults and the health care workers who keep the hospitals running.

Getting here from Westwood

The 405 south to the Venice Blvd exit, then west, is the most direct route, about 4 to 5 miles. When the freeway is jammed, Sepulveda Blvd runs parallel all the way to Venice Blvd. Outside rush hour, plan on 15 to 25 minutes. By transit, the Metro E Line’s Westwood/Rancho Park and Expo/Sepulveda stations sit south of Westwood, with bus connections toward Venice Blvd, where Metro bus line 33 runs past our office. Check a trip planner before you go.

Students and young adults

For a student, testing is often part of a deal: with family, with a treatment program, or with yourself. A random program gives you an electronic notice when it is time to test, and our coordinator can work around class schedules within office hours, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Outside those hours, we can arrange testing at other Blackburn locations on the Westside.

Your results belong to you. If you are an adult, they go only to the people you authorize in writing, which might be a parent, a therapist or no one at all. See teen and young adult testing for how we work with families.

Nurses, doctors and other health care workers

Licensed health care professionals in a board monitoring or diversion program generally must use the testing vendor their program requires. We do not replace that vendor, and we do not imply board approval. What we can offer alongside it is private accountability testing, a coordinator who knows you, and connections to therapy, psychiatric care and one-on-one mentoring for accountability and structure. Read support for licensed professionals.

Why testing is screened and then confirmed

Instant screens are fast and low cost, but a positive screen is presumptive. The National Institute on Drug Abuse describes testing as a screen followed by a more specific confirmation test (NIDA). When a result will be acted on, we send it to a partner laboratory for confirmation. For professionals and students alike, that safeguard matters: a mistaken result can carry real consequences.

Mobile testing near campus or work

If getting to Venice Blvd is impractical between classes or shifts, mobile testing at your home or workplace is available for an additional fee.

Tests available to Westwood clients

  • 12 panel urine drug test for common drug classes, with results in minutes.
  • EtG alcohol test for drinking over recent days, and a breathalyzer for alcohol right now.
  • Saliva testing on request, in person.
  • Partner laboratory confirmation for positives, and chain of custody documentation when needed.

Bring a photo ID and a list of your medications to every test. Some prescriptions can show on a screen, and knowing about them up front means results are read correctly and fairly.

Cost

Our testing is low cost. Your total depends on the tests, frequency, mobile visits and whether lab confirmation or written reports are needed. If treatment costs are a barrier, The Blackburn Foundation offers treatment scholarships. See all areas we serve.

Need more than testing?

Monitoring is the first step, not the last. If a result or a hard week tells you more help is needed, Blackburn can connect you to it.

Your monitoring coordinator can make the introduction.

Common questions

Can a college student in Westwood keep results private from parents?

Yes. An adult's results go only to the people they authorize in writing. Some students choose to share them as part of an agreement with family.

I am a nurse in a diversion program. Can I use your testing instead?

No. Your program's required vendor stays in place. You can use our testing for additional private accountability, and we can connect you with therapy and mentoring.

Is Sepulveda Blvd faster than the 405 from Westwood?

When the 405 is jammed, often yes. Sepulveda Blvd runs parallel all the way to Venice Blvd.

Can testing be scheduled around my class times?

Within office hours, yes, and a random program can account for your schedule. Outside office hours, other Blackburn locations on the Westside or mobile testing can be arranged.
