Getting to us from Malibu
From the Civic Center area, the office is roughly 18 to 20 miles away, and more from western Malibu. Most people take PCH east to Santa Monica, then head south on Lincoln Blvd or take the I-10 east to the I-405 south and exit at Venice Blvd. Plan on about 35 to 60 minutes outside rush hour. PCH closures and weekend beach traffic can add a lot, so check conditions before you leave.
By transit, Metro bus service runs along PCH to Santa Monica, where you can connect toward Venice Blvd and Metro bus line 33.
Courts and schools for Malibu
Malibu’s own courthouse closed in 2013, and its cases were moved to other courthouses: according to reporting at the time, criminal matters went to Van Nuys and traffic infractions to Santa Monica. If you have a court case, check your paperwork for the courthouse that is handling it.
Malibu’s public schools have been part of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, and the city has been working toward a separate Malibu Unified School District. Families from the Palisades side may also want our Pacific Palisades page.
Testing options for Malibu clients
Whether the request comes from a parent, a court, an employer or you, testing for Malibu clients follows one of four paths.
One-time test
A single scheduled test when you need an answer now, such as a 12 panel urine drug test for common drug classes, with fentanyl testing included.
Random testing program
An electronic notice tells you when to test. See our random testing program.
Ongoing monitoring
A schedule set case by case, with one coordinator. See ongoing monitoring.
Court ordered testing
For a court, probation or an attorney, with chain of custody documentation when needed. See court ordered testing.
Alcohol can be checked with an EtG test for recent days or a breathalyzer for right now, and saliva testing is available on request. Bring a photo ID. Observed collection is used when required, and positives that will be acted on go to partner laboratories for confirmation. See all services.
Mobile testing near Malibu
Mobile testing at home or work in Malibu is offered for an additional fee and may be available in your area; call to ask. Outside office hours, other Blackburn locations on the Westside may help.
Who we help in Malibu
Malibu clients get plain answers, no judgment, and fast results to the people they approve in writing.
- Families of adults and teens.
- Court and legal clients: probation, diversion, attorneys.
- Licensed professionals such as doctors, nurses, lawyers and pilots.
- Treatment programs and clinicians, with client consent.
Privacy is often the first concern for Malibu families. Results go only to the people the person tested authorizes in writing, and nobody else.
More support when testing is not enough
Malibu is close to the Westside along CA-1, and the next step after a test can be closer than you think. The rest of Blackburn includes therapy and psychiatric care at Blackburn Clinical Services, sober living and sober apartments on the Westside through Blackburn Recovery Services, one-on-one mentoring for accountability and structure at Blackburn Mentoring, and treatment scholarships through The Blackburn Foundation, and your coordinator can connect you to any of them. Free and urgent options are listed on our get help page.
Testing is low cost; what you pay depends on the tests, frequency, mobile visits and any lab confirmation or reports. See all areas we serve, or nearby pages for Calabasas and Agoura Hills.
